MARRIAGE:
By the time he was twenty-five, Muhammad (Peace Be Upon Him) had become well known in the city for the integrity of his disposition and the honesty of his character.
A rich widow Khadijah (Allah be pleased with her), daughter of Khuwaylid, carried out her own business and like other merchants of Mecca she also used to hire men to transport her merchandise outside the country on a profit-sharing scheme.
Khadijah (Allah be pleased with her) was a noble and intelligent lady. She was respected for the quality and integrity of her heart. After hearing about the character and the integrity of his disposition she hired Muhammad (Peace Be Upon Him) and consigned him her goods to be taken for sale to Syria. She was surprised and delighted to get a very unusual profit by that consignment due to the honesty of Muhammad (Peace Be Upon Him).
Although Khadijah (Allah be pleased with her) had
turned down several offers for her hand by some of` the eminent chiefs
of the Quraish, she expressed her desire to marry the Prophet (peace be
upon him). Hamza, an uncle of the Prophet (Peace Be Upon
Him), conveyed the message to him for which he agreed. Abu Talib
recited the wedding sermon and the Prophet (Peace Be Upon
Him), united in wedlock with Khadija, commenced his marital career.
At the time of marriage Prophet (Peace Be Upon Him)
was twenty-five years of age, while Khadijah (Allah be pleased
with her) was 40 years old.
