LIVELIHOOD:
The Quraish were traders by vocation since thousands of years before the rise of Islam. Because the Holy Prophet's uncle was also a trader, this appeared to be the best profession to him.
He (Peace be upon him) had traveled with Abu Talib in his trade visits in his childhood which had given him ample experience and on the other side his reputation for honest dealing had spread far and wide. In those days people entrusted their investments to an able and an honest trader, and shared in his profit. The Prophet (Peace be upon him) welcomed such partnerships. He (Peace be upon him) made many trips to Syria, Basra and Yemen with the purpose of trade.
