Sayings of Muhammad (Peace be upon him)

The Night of Power:

The Night of Power (Laylat al-Qadr) has great importance in Islam. This Great Night comes in the Holy month of Ramadan. The Holy Quran has described It as the Night better than thousand months. There are also many sayings of Prophet Muhammad (Peace be upon him) about the significance of this night.

Significance of the Night:

1) The Night of Decree:

{ Allah's Messenger (Peace be upon him) said: 'The first thing which Allah created was Pen. He commanded it to write. It asked: What should I write? He said: Write the Decree (al-Qadr). So it wrote what had happened and what was going to happen up to eternity.' (Narrated by Ubadah ibn as-Samit)

2) The Night of Revelation of Quran:

The Quran says: "We have indeed revealed this (Message) in the night of Power: And what will explain to thee what the Night of Power is? The Night of Power is better than a thousand Months. Therein come down the angels and the Spirit by Allah's permission on every errand: Peace!... This until the rise of Morn!" (97:1-5)

3) The Night of Forgiveness:

{ The Prophet  (Peace be upon him) said: 'Whoever fasted the month of Ramadan out of sincere Faith (i.e. belief) and hoping for a reward from Allah, then all his past sins will be forgiven, and whoever stood for the prayers in the night of Qadr out of sincere Faith and hoping for a reward from Allah, then all his previous sins will be forgiven .' (Narrated by Abu Huraira)

{ Allah's Apostle (Peace be upon him) said: 'Whoever establishes the prayers on the night of Qadr out of sincere faith and hoping to attain Allah's rewards (not to show off) then all his past sins will be forgiven.' (Narrated by Abu Huraira)

{ Aisha asked Allah's Messenger (Peace be upon him) to tell her what prayers to say on Laylat al-Qadr (Night of Power) if she knew which night it was, and he (Peace be upon him) told her to say, 'O Allah, Thou art forgiving and lovest forgiveness, so forgive me.' (Narrated by Aisha)

{ Allah's Messenger (Peace be upon him) said: 'When Laylat al-Qadr (Night of Power) comes, Gabriel descends with a company of angels who invoke blessings on ever who is standing or sitting and remembering Allah, who is Great and Glorious.' When their festival day comes, i.e. the day when they break their fast, Allah speaks proudly of them to His angels saying, "My angels, what is the reward of a hired servant who has fully accomplished his work?" They reply, "Our Lord, his reward is that he should be paid his wage in full." He says, "My angels, My male and female servants have fulfilled what I have made obligatory for them, and then have come out raising their voices in supplication. By My might, glory, honour, high dignity and exalted station, I shall certainly answer them." Then He says, "Return, for I have forgiven you and changed your evil deeds into good deeds." The Prophet  (Peace be upon him) said that they then returned having received forgiveness. (Narrated by Anas ibn Malik)

{ When the Prophet (Peace be upon him) stated that his people would be granted forgiveness on the last night in Ramadan and was asked whether it was Laylat al-Qadr, he (Peace be upon him) replied, 'No, but a workman is paid his full wages only when he has finished his work.' ( Narrated by AbuHurayrah)

How to find the Night of Power:

{ Allah's Apostle (Peace be upon him) said: 'Search for the Night of Qadr (Power) in the odd nights of the last ten days of Ramadan.' (Narrated by Aisha)

{ The Prophet (Peace be upon him) came and addressed us and said: 'I was informed of (the date of the Night of Qadr) but I was caused to forget it; so search for it in the odd nights of the last ten nights of the month of Ramadan.' (Narrated by Abu Salama)

{ The Prophet (Peace be upon him) came out to inform us about the Night of Qadr (Power) but two Muslims were quarreling with each other. So, the Prophet (Peace be upon him) said: 'I came out to inform you about the Night of Qadr but such-and-such persons were quarreling, so the news about it had been taken away; yet that might be for your own good, so search for it on the 29th, 27th and 25th (of Ramadan).' (Narrated by Ubada bin as- Samit)
