Economic Structure of Islam


Honest Earning:

In Islamic teachings honest earning is the most important duty after the prayers. Islam also sways financial and economic matters of the society. This not only helps financial and economical justice among the ranks of society as social & religious obligation but it also helps to prevent uneasiness between them due to financial injustice.

The Holy Quran and Prophet Muhammad (Peace be upon him) strongly stress the need for man to earn his bread honestly and called it the Bounty of God. Islam sees hoarding, illegal profiteering, smuggling and speculation or forward sales & purchase as maladies for the society.

The Quran says: "And seek of Allah's Bounty." (63.10)   

The Quran says: " Those men (are pious) whom buying and selling or trade does not cause them to forget the hymn of Allah. And who exercise honesty because of the will of Allah." (24.37) 

The Quran says: "Give full measure when ye measure and weigh with a balance that is straight: that is the most fitting and the most advantageous in the final determination."(17.35)

The Quran says: "The Evil One threatens you with poverty and bids you to conduct unseemly. Allah promiseth you His forgiveness and bounties and Allah careth for all and He knoweth all things." (2.268)

The Prophet (Peace be upon him) said: 'A man who earns honestly, is God's friend.'

The Prophet (Peace be upon him) said: 'An honest Muslim storekeeper who carries out the orders of his master and pays fully what he has been ordered to give with a good heart and pays to that person to whom he was ordered to pay, is regarded as one of the two charitable persons.' ( Narrated by: Abu Musa)

Allah's Messenger (Peace be upon him) was asked: What type of earning was best?  He (Peace be upon him) replied: 'A man's work with his hand and every business transaction which is approved.' ( Narrated by: Rafi' ibn Khadij)

The Prophet (Peace be upon him) said: 'The honest treasurer who gives willingly what he is ordered to give, is one of the two charitable persons, (the second being the owner).' (Narrated by: Abu Musa Al Ashari)

The Prophet (Peace be upon him) said, 'The merchants will be raised on the Day of Resurrection as evildoers, except those who fear Allah, are honest and speak the truth.' ( Narrated by: Rifa'ah ibn Rafi' and Al-Bara' ibn Azib )

The Prophet (Peace be upon him) said: 'If a slave* is honest and faithful to his master and worships his Lord (Allah) in a perfect manner, he will get a double reward.' (Narrated by: Ibn Umar)

* For those days when slavery was not ban
